Intrepid Travel has launched\u00a0an\u00a0emergency appeal<\/a>\u00a0through its not-for-profit,\u00a0The Intrepid Foundation,<\/u>\u00a0to support impacted communities in\u00a0Western Colombia after a\u00a0magnitude\u00a07.4 earthquake struck the region on Aug. 11, 2026.<\/p>\n Hundreds of people have been killed and dozens more injured, with rescue efforts underway to free those trapped beneath the rubble.<\/p>\n All funds raised through the appeal will go directly to\u00a0impacted\u00a0communities, providing essential medical supplies for emergency care, food and lodging for volunteer medical staff and airplane fuel to transport volunteers and supplies to where it is needed most.<\/p>\n The Intrepid Foundation<\/a>\u00a0has\u00a0established\u00a0the appeal in partnership with\u00a0local\u00a0Colombia-based NGO partner,\u00a0Patrulla A\u00e9rea Civil Colombiana (PAC), which is providing on-ground support to communities affected by the earthquake.<\/p>\n PAC provides free medical services to remote areas across Colombia. With access to volunteer pilots, medical professionals and aircrafts it is well placed to respond to the needs of local communities during this time. To help maximize the impact of the emergency appeal, The Intrepid Foundation will match donations up to CAD $30,000.<\/p>\n Meanwhile,\u00a0Intrepid\u2019s\u00a0trips continue to\u00a0operate\u00a0in\u00a0Colombia\u00a0and are being rerouted away from affected areas where necessary, with the intention of resuming as soon as possible to ensure local communities will continue to\u00a0benefit\u00a0from the economic support of tourism.<\/p>\n Hernan Acevedo, General Manager, Colombia, Intrepid Travel, said that: \u201cThousands of people across Western Colombia, including Cali, Pereira, Quibd\u00f3 and Choc\u00f3 Department\u00a0are facing loss,\u00a0uncertainty\u00a0and urgent needs \u2013 especially access to medical care.\u00a0In moments like this, solidarity can make an immediate and meaningful difference. We are asking for your help,\u00a0by\u00a0donating\u00a0if you are able, or by sharing the appeal with your networks.<\/p>\n Intrepid started operations in Colombia in\u00a02019\u00a0and runs\u00a0eight\u00a0trips in the region.\u00a0It has a local office based in\u00a0Bogota, employing\u00a0eight\u00a0full-time\u00a0team members.\u00a0The Intrepid Foundation has been partnering with PAC for\u00a0three years.<\/p>\n Biheng Zhang, General Manager of The Intrepid Foundation, said that: \u201cBy\u00a0giving to\u00a0this appeal, the international travel community can directly contribute to the humanitarian relief efforts, supplying immediate\u00a0medical needs to communities impacted by this devastating earthquake, while supporting a locally led NGO that is deeply rooted in\u00a0the community\u00a0and trusted by the local people.\u201d<\/p>\n Intrepid Travel has confirmed that\u00a0travellers\u00a0and staff in\u00a0Colombia\u00a0are safe, and trips in\u00a0Colombia\u00a0continue to\u00a0operate. Groups currently in\u00a0Western Colombia\u00a0are being rerouted away from affected areas and provided with an alternative itinerary and inclusions.
