WestJet and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), representing WestJet Cabin Crew, have reached a tentative agreement,\u00a0bringing an end to\u00a0the\u00a0work stoppage and network-wide operational disruption, and withdrawing both the\u00a0strike\u00a0and\u00a0lockout\u00a0notices.<\/p>\n

The agreement will now go to WestJet Cabin Crew for a ratification vote.<\/p>\n

In a statement, CUPE 8125 President, Alia Hussain said: \u201cThis tentative agreement represents meaningful progress. It evolves the flight credit system by recognizing more of the work cabin crew are required to perform and with general increases to compensation for that work.\u201d<\/p>\n

And she added \u201cMost importantly, this agreement was achieved through collective bargaining at the negotiating table. We will now present the agreement to our members for their review and ratification vote.”<\/p>\n

WestJet Group\u2019s Chief Executive Officer, Alexis von Hoensbroech said: \u201cWe\u00a0are\u00a0pleased to have reached\u00a0a tentative agreement that reflects the hard work and\u00a0professionalism\u00a0our cabin crew.\u201d<\/p>\n

And von Hoensbroech continued: \u201cWe\u00a0know this disruption has been frustrating for our guests and\u00a0WestJetters\u00a0and\u00a0we’re\u00a0sorry for that.\u00a0Our teams are working hard to restore service\u00a0and get\u00a0our\u00a0guests on their way to their destinations\u00a0as\u00a0quickly as possible and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we get back to\u00a0normal.\u201d<\/p>\n

WestJet said it will share further details on the return to operations as they become available.<\/p>\n

On its website, the airline advised: \u201cWhile this is an important step forward, the impact of recent labour disruptions on our scheduled flights means that a full return to normal operations will take time. As we resume flying and repositioning our aircraft and crews, some flights may continue to be disrupted. We are grateful for your continued patience and understanding; our teams are working to safely restore our operation as soon as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
