UPDATE: WestJet is advising that it has continued to cancel flights today (Sat., Aug. 1, 2026) and advised the following network-wide cancellations:<\/p>\n

Saturday, Aug. 1 as of 11 a.m. MT \u2013 86 cancellations<\/p>\n

Saturday, Aug. 1 as of 9 a.m. MT \u2013 32 cancellations<\/p>\n

Friday, July 31 as of 9 p.m. MT \u2013 80 cancellations<\/p>\n

WestJet also said that: \u201cThis action is in response to the union\u2019s notice to strike and the inability to reach an agreement. WestJet\u2019s most recent proposal was designed to be a transformative, industry-leading agreement for WestJet\u2019s Cabin Crew, and directly addressed the key issues the union identified as its priorities.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Earlier today, the airline issued the update:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

In an update to its earlier advisory (July 31), WestJet said that it has now begun to initiate \u201can organized take-down of its network and will start issuing flight cancellations to guests.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Aug. 1, 2026, the carrier said it will cancel 81 flights, explaining that: \u201cThis action is in response to the union\u2019s notice to strike and the inability to reach an agreement,\u201d and continuing: \u201cWestJet\u2019s most recent proposal was designed to be a transformative, industry-leading agreement for WestJet\u2019s Cabin Crew, and directly addressed the key issues the union identified as its priorities.\u201d<\/p>\n

In its updated advisory, it said that: \u201cTo ensure the integrity of WestJet\u2019s network, and to minimize the risk of stranding guests and aircraft, the airline has started to issue cancellations and reduce flying. These actions ensure the airline has complete control of its operations and can communicate with guests and crew to minimize people being stranded.\u201d<\/p>\n

And it concludes: \u201cWestJet remains at the table and committed to achieving a negotiated tentative agreement that recognizes the important contributions and professionalism of WestJet\u2019s Cabin Crew.\u201d<\/p>\n
