As the U.S.-Israel military operation in Iran moves into its fifth day and Iranian drone and missile attacks spread through the region, there are a number of industry updates of note.<\/p>\n
Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) CEO, Richard Smart said in a statement to Travel Press Today that: \u201cWe recognize how difficult the past month has been for travel advisors and their clients, with disruptions affecting Cuba, parts of Mexico and now significant airspace closures in the Middle East. Advisors are once again on the front lines, supporting travellers through uncertainty and rapidly changing conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n
Smart said that: \u201cFor those who are managing impacted bookings, Ontario\u2019s consumer protection framework continues to apply,\u201d before continuing: \u201cWhere a customer has\u00a0purchased\u00a0a travel package, and an element of that package\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0be delivered (e.g., a flight), the customer must be offered their choice of a refund, travel alternative or a voucher.\u201d<\/p>\n

TICO\u2019s CEO also said that: \u201cAdvisors are also reminded of their obligation to keep clients informed of material changes that could affect their travel decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n
And he emphasized that: \u201cTravel advisors play a critical role in implementing these protections, ensuring travellers know their options,\u00a0facilitating\u00a0resolutions and keeping them informed. TICO\u2019s\u00a0website provides\u00a0more\u00a0information\u00a0about the\u00a0consumer protection obligations in these unfortunate situations.\u201d<\/p>\n
Smart concluded: \u201cShould consumers have any uncertainties or inquiries\u00a0regarding\u00a0available consumer protections, TICO\u00a0remains\u00a0accessible to\u00a0provide assistance\u00a0via email or telephone.\u201d<\/p>\n
www.tico.ca<\/a><\/p>\n MSC CRUISES\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n MSC Cruises also provided an update advising that it \u201cis working continuously with airline partners in the region, particularly Emirates and Etihad Airways, to identify and secure return flights for our guests\u201d on the MSC Euribia.<\/p>\n The cruise company said: \u201cWe are requesting priority for our guests from our partners. At present, airlines operating flights have indicated that they will follow an order of priority based on the original flight date.\u201d<\/p>\n And it continued: \u201cIn order to speed up the repatriation, we are working on other options such as chartering flights from Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Muscat.\u201d<\/p>\n MSC said that: \u201cIn parallel we are in constant contact with local authorities, Embassies and Foreign Offices to also support the safe return of our guests.<\/p>\n The cruise company concluded: \u201cThe situation on board remains calm. We are providing guests with regular updates on the situation. They have full access to all onboard services and facilities, and we continue to provide a high standard of care, comfort and support.\u201d<\/p>\n AIR CANADA<\/strong><\/p>\n In a post on X, Air Canada announced \u201ca strategic expansion of service to Delhi, India with the introduction of a new year-round flight from @yulaeroport starting Oct. 31.
